Under the company's Integrated Quality management System, the Board and Executive Management are strongly committed to providing a healthy and safe workplace and to eliminating conditions and incidents which could result in personal injury or ill health.

The Company's activities conform to the requirements of relevant state and federal legislation and to good, established practices based on AS4801:2001 'Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems - Specification with guidance for use'.

The Company provides employees with guidelines and training on safe work practices, as well as information on identification, assessment and control of hazards in the workplace. The Company recognises that success depends on the commitment and cooperation of all employees including those in management. Staff members are consulted and their participation is strongly encouraged during the development and implementation of work practices and guidelines.

It is the responsibility of management to secure employee participation in implementing the procedures set out in the Health and Safety Procedures Manual.

The Company expects employees to comply with its occupational health and safety policies, procedures and guidelines, and to conduct themselves in a safe manner, not placing themselves or others at risk. It is the responsibility of employees and contractors to follow the OHS guidelines set out in the Health and Safety Procedures Manual. All staff members have a duty of care in regard to the health and safety of their fellow-employees.

The Company is also responsible for providing a safe and healthy environment for subconsultants, sub-contractors, visitors and other members of the public who come on to the Company's premises or are affected by the Company's activities.

Occupational Health Safety and Rehabilitation Policy

Management is responsible for the health and safety of employees, sub-consultants, subcontractors, visitors and other members of the public in the company’s workplaces or in areas affected by the Company’s activities.

The Company’s work environment, activities and procedures conform to the requirements of relevant state and federal legislation and to good, established practices including Australian Standards. The Company provides employees with guidelines and training on safe work practices, as well as information on identification, assessment and control of hazards in the workplace.

The Company recognises that success depends on the commitment and cooperation of all employees, including those in management. It is the responsibility of management to consult employees and to encourage employee participation during the development, implementation and review of work practices and guidelines.

The Company Policy for Occupational Health Safety and Rehabilitation is to:

  • Promote a positive culture based on the principle that all incidents resulting in a risk to health and safety in the workplace can be controlled and prevented and that any injured employees are entitled to the opportunities of rehabilitation
  • Provide an incident-free and healthy workplace to ensure that all potential incidents are controlled and prevented and, for unforeseen events, to provide emergency response programmes to prevent or minimise risks to people, the environment and property
  • Comply with applicable government and industry health, safety and environmental laws, regulations and codes of practice to establish good Company standards, procedures and guidelines

Occupational Health Safety and Rehabilitation Objectives

Heggies is committed to Health and Safety and develops and implements Health and Safety Procedures and Guidelines in order to achieve the objectives of the Health Safety and Rehabilitation Policy and to:

  • Ensure a proactive approach to health and safety in planning and carrying out work activities and to continually identify, assess and take steps to eliminate risks to the health and safety of people in the workplace
  • Involve employees in the decision-making processes through regular consultation, communication, supervision and training and to provide a continuous program of education and learning to ensure that employees work in the safest possible manner
  • Ensure that employees are able to identify and control the risks involved with work activities using risk management techniques and to continuously improve performance through innovative technology, education and good management practices
  • Provide effective management of injuries and ill-health and to assist in rehabilitation of all employees
  • Promote good health practices of employees, set and monitor progress towards objectives and measurable targets to ensure continued improvement aimed at elimination of work-related injury and illness, maintain industrial hygiene programmes and support general employee welfare initiatives that will promote and ensure a safe and healthy working environment.
